The Kansas Newspaper Foundation, the non-profit arm of the Kansas Press Association, is awarding grants for member publishers to assist in the establishment of websites for legal newspapers.

Our-Hometown president and CEO Matt Larson and Emily Bradbury, executive director of the KPA detail the grant process, and how newspapers who either do not have websites or websites that provide only limited functionality will leverage the OHT WordPress platform to establish and sustain a modern mobile-friendly website.

Here are the main takeaways:

The fundamental purpose of the program is to get all KPA members in a position to have functional websites, so that public notices and other important services provided by newspapers will be in print and on the web.

Each grantee must agree to place a link to the Kansas Public Notice website on the newspaper’s website.

Press associations across the country are creating and maintaining central database websites providing access to legal and public notices as required by state law.

In addition grant recipients will receive continued support from the KPA during the first three years of their participation, with the goal of creating sustainability through the synergy of both digital and print distribution.
